Topic: Development of the D7E Electric Drive Tractor

Abstract: The D7E replaces previous driveshaft transmission design with a hybrid diesel-electric drive train that includes a generator, electric motors and power electronics. There are no friction clutches, no driveshaft, no engine belts, and fewer moving parts which results in less power loss and more efficient transfer of engine power to the ground. Compared with other machines in its class, the D7E consumes 10 to 30% less fuel, moves 10% more material per hour, and increases overall efficiency by 25% in material moved per unit of fuel. Design and manufacturing achievements of the D7E will be presented.

Biography: Matt Robinson is Welding Engineer and Automation Team Leader in Advanced Production Technologies at Caterpillar in Peoria, IL. Matt holds a BS in Welding Engineering from the Ohio State University.

WHAT DO I RECEIVE AS A SENIOR MEMBER?

You are entitled to call yourself an IEEE Senior Member
for the rest of your life and this will be indicated on
your Membership card. Your immediate Supervisor (or
whomever you specify) will receive a letter commending you
on your status. You will also receive a beautiful wooden
plaque indicating this status and other member benefits.

Just your time to apply. There is no
increase in dues and there are no fees.

Abstract:
Ethical Hacking is a controlled attack exercise against a company's network. Groups of Ethical Hackers, or Penetration Testers, are hired to perform attacks that hackers or those with malicious intent could perform. It's not all just about computers. Targets can range from wireless access points to phone systems. Want to find out how it works? Join us on October 1st.

Biographical Statement:
As a Security Analyst for MicroSolved Inc., Valerie Thomas performs hands on penetration tests and vulnerability assessments. Throughout her time with the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) she managed assessments for military branches, Department of Defense (DoD) Agencies, and public sector vendors. Many of these assessments were performed in conjunction with DoD and military exercises to improve the security posture of the military services and agencies.

During her time with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) she participated in multiple Developmental and Operational testing initiatives for Command and Control systems. Additionally she was a member of Technical Advisory Groups for software acquisition initiatives.

Prior to entering the Defense Industry she earned her Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology from DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio. While at DeVry she founded and chaired the DeVry Columbus Chapter of The Society of Women Engineers and was a member of IEEE and Tau Alpha Pi Honor Society.

Topic: Material Challenges in the Construction of Modern Coal-Fired Power Stations

Abstract: In building modern coal-fired power stations, unique challenges must be overcome when working with new and historic materials required by the design. An overview of welding and construction challenges will be presented.

Biography: Mr. Siefert holds a BS in Welding Engineering from the Ohio State University and works in the Welding Lab of the Babcock and Wilcox Research Center. The Welding Lab directly supports the BW-PGG division, which designs and fabricates modern coal-fired power plants for a variety of unique conditions and world-wide customers. In his experience with B&W, Mr. Siefert has had the opportunity to travel the world presenting research and conducting large-scale research and development projects.
